Description
This is what milkweed looks like in November in upstate New York. The monarch butterflies have flown off (they like milkweed best), the birds have flown off too, the insects have gone into hiding, and everything is a lot more still. As winter begins to attack the plants, they turn a beige or heather color, almost white in some instances. The leaves on the bush in the background have turned a dark brown, however.
Underneath the heather-like grasses a little green is still left over where the frost hasn't been able to seep down yet. But they are certainly in shock as a lot of the blades aren't green all the way through. The emerald is disappearing.
November is a month to cherish. Although it is not shouting colors, the monochromatic color scheme is exciting all on its own if you like subtlety. Heathers, browns, grays and golds mix together and often seem to be repeated in the November sky which also tends to be gray, and can look a little more golden and heather-y when the sun goes down.
This photograph is my own original.
