I made this piece primarily for home decor: pillows, duvets, perhaps a matching print on the wall.
This piece is quite contemporary looking (for me) with it's sharpness and angles. The design was inspired by someone who likes zigzags and diamonds in her home decor. I thought I'd add some other geometric shapes while I was at it including triangles. Stripes also seemed to fit in terms of highlighting the geometrics. But I couldn't help but add some softer shapes including polka dots places randomly here and there, some swirls (to add a little nature), and some billowing shapes along the border, which also have stripes.
This piece would be monochromatic except for the subtle greens here and there (helps to cool the design down a little bit).
Red and orange are warm (even hot) colors, and usually excite. They are symbolized by passion and quick action...
I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio. My primary mediums are painting, drawing, digital art, illustrations, cartoons, hand thrown pottery and relief sculpture. If you see pottery in my photographic work, it is my own hand-thrown piece.
