This is an autumn inspired design for home decor like pillows. While there are leaf-like shapes throughout, I still consider this piece to be an abstract design (suggesting certain real life shapes, in other words). Also featured are diamonds, stripes, white dots, swirls, fan-like shapes, and a double orange border.
Blue and orange are opposite colors on the color wheel, and therefor each color pops in brightness.
Cobalt blue is a cooling color and generally symbolizes calmness and stability (and sometimes depression). Orange has the opposite meaning: instability, energy, enthusiasm, quickness. A lot of people like the interplay of these colors in their environment with one color cooling the composition down and the other one heating it up. The addition here is turquoise. I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio.
