For this piece I wanted something dark. However, if everything is dark, you don't see contrasts or details. In a way, the white seems to glow more with a black background.
I made this design for pillows and other home decor products.
The design has a little bit of texture to it to add a little more depth.
In terms of symbolism, white and black are opposites too. White is the color of innocence, purity and illumination. Black can be the color of corruption and sin, but in its best context it can be about knowledge and depth (priests and judges tend to wear black). Red is generally the color of passion, but dark red is more about willpower and courage. So it is a more "mature" color that siren red.

I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums.
