Description
I was taking a long walk in the woods on state land (I actually got lost) and came upon a slight clearing with this odd fern-like plant with flowers that look like Queen Anne's Lace. It is not: the flowers are smaller. Having walked a long way in deep forest full of dried leaves and lots of browns, golds and yellows, it was a nice surprise to see this very green plant, like a wild bouquet just waiting for someone to notice its beauty and symmetry.
Around the base of the plant were these long crumpled leaves. It was October and just past the peak of "the leaf season" in upstate NY.
In plant symbolism, white flowers usually represent purity and altruism and ferns usually represent family and hope for new generations.
Perhaps plants like this exist to feed honey bees before winter sets in on the bees.
This photograph was taken in Saratoga County in upstate NY on the Vermont border.
