I hand threw this porcelain vase on the potter's wheel and decided before I put it up for sale to use it to make a print.
I have made a lot of angels in this style, with a swirling dress and holding a star. Thus she is a celestial angel.
When I picked the bouquet, the dandelions looked like stars to me. The white lilac represented an angel. The greenery represented the movement of space (shooting stars, novas, the big bang, etc).
To my way of thinking, this piece has a lot of spiritual elements and messages.
When I was making a lot of pottery and relief sculpture, I often thought that it was too bad that I could not make reproductions like 2-D artists did. Photographing my pottery with a bouquet was, in some way, my answer to that. I hope you like the effect.
I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio. My primary mediums are painting, drawing, digital art, illustrations, cartoons, hand thrown pottery and relief sculpture. If you see pottery in my photographic work, it is my own hand-thrown piece.
