I always like thickets with a lot of texture. I paint and draw unruly gardens and plants with various textures, so this fits right in with what my handmade creations. Besides, there is nothing orderly about the natural world. It is ruled by survival of the fittest, but in most ways it also offers a lot more diversity, the most beauty (wild things are beautiful in my book), the most enduring interest. What some people regard as weeds, I find that their life force, their will to survive is meaningful and does not go unnoticed.
This is just one such textured bramble found on the outskirts of a meadow.
The photograph was taken in Saratoga County, NY near one of my favorite places to walk.

I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio.
