I made this piece for home decor like pillows (perhaps with a matching print on the wall). I decided to try a modern approach using geometrics, but in the end decided it needed softer shapes (I am more noted for the latter as my work tends to be very floral). In other words, this is a foray from what I usually make. However, in the beginning, I started painting and drawing abstract designs, lots of them. It is not where I stayed as I felt restless to explore so many more styles and expressions, which eventually led me to teach art (k - 12).
So, in a way, I am coming back to my roots with a piece like this.
Pictured are thin sharp diamonds coming from a center diamond with puffs full of more stripes. In fact everything is a bit stripe-y and geometric, except for the border which I decided needed the softer shapes to counteract all of the sharpness and hard...
About Lise Winne
I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio. My primary mediums are painting, drawing, digital art, illustrations, cartoons, hand thrown pottery and relief sculpture. If you see pottery in my photographic work, it is my own hand-thrown piece.
