Description
This is what goldenrod looks like in the mid-late part of October in Saratoga County in upstate New York. It has this heather color. And then the flowers turn all white by November. Of course, the flowers are really just seeds, and they will sprout new flowers in the Spring.
Even though it is a prolific yellow flower (or weed) in the Summer, and lights up a landscape, I love this manifestation of it too. So soft, so subtle, so beautiful! The grass still has enough green in it to make the heathery goldenrod stand out. By November, the grass will be an indistinguishable color from the goldenrod, except perhaps, the white flowers.
I am happy to take these photographs now before this piece of land gets taken over by a parking lot and office buildings by Saratoga Hospital. It's a testament to what it used to be, a journal of sorts. Many of the photographs I took in 2020 were on this piece of land.
I remember 20 years ago walking on this land. It was home to deer, which used to lay in it, making the grass flat (a kind of circle). With tall grass around them, they hid in there pretty well, and the tall grass must have made a comfy bed too. Then some development came in on the outskirts of it (which was just as beautiful) and then an apartment building on the edge.
I only regret that I didn't get more photographs of this beautiful piece of land (a piece of land with a view!).
I was really rather attached to it, and just like the animal and birds who roamed it, I will have to go elsewhere now as parking lots, office buildings and lights all around the parameters are not my thing. I will feel sad, but humans do like to build things on beautiful land.
