Artist's Description

This is a tree that I found in the woods with moss and vines growing inbetween two trees that had grown together and became one. For all intents and purposes this is the crotch of a tree and obviously some moss and a vine of leaves found their way there and made it home.

This piece seems oddly female, and the symmetry helps it seem that way!

The composition intrigued me as well as the colors of rust, moss green, true green, browns and variations of gray.

If I take a walk with my camera every day, I come across situations like this that I never truly looked at or admired.

In some ways this is one of my favorites because it is so common, but so uncommon in that it is hard to find a photograph of this. Life is out there everywhere, even in the crotch of a tree.

About Lise Winne

Lise Winne

I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio. My primary mediums are painting, drawing, digital art, illustrations, cartoons, hand thrown pottery and relief sculpture. If you see pottery in my photographic work, it is my own hand-thrown piece. I have shown my work in galleries and through juried shows at art centers and museums. Some notables include The Delaware Art Museum, Haverford Center of the Arts,...
