Description
Please note that the watermark in the lower right does not appear on any ordered prints or products.
This piece was made for my collection of blue period pieces, and also for my mounting work on firebirds. It is also about making home decor products, such as pillows, featuring well known figures and characters from fantasy art.
In this piece, there are four firebirds arranged in four corners of the design.
Firebirds in mythology and in symbolism represent reincarnation, transformation and healing. A firebird typically goes through radical transformations, burns up, then rises from the ashes, and is like new again. In myth, the firebird can live 1,000 years, and tends to take the long wise view on issues. Its tears and presence are said to heal.
So, in a way, firebirds are healing art.
Leaves and vines also represent the cycle of life.
A diamond shape symbolizes earth and sun, and commitments.
Blue is often the color of peace, but it can also be the color of night and dormancy. With a firebird zipping through the night sky, the piece takes on a new meaning, perhaps healing depression.
With the exception of the firebirds, this piece is subtle, and the ornate qualities downplayed (blue on blue).
In the case that you may want to mix and match, the dark blue navy background is #012f8d.
My little signature on the bottom right does not appear on pillows, duvets, blankets or shower curtains in the tradition of home decor. On other products and prints, it does.
