Artist's Description

I have taken so many pictures of this meadow and what looked lush in spring, summer and autumn now looks so barren: practically a wasteland. The goldenrod is now all lying on its side, and all of the prior fluffiness in the flowers is now gone. Everything looks gray, even the snow. It even differs from December snows in that you can still see just a hint of green, even if it might be chartreuse bordering on brown. All of the plants have turned to brown and the goldenrod has turned to dark brown.

However, all of the little holes in the ground are footprints of various animals, some human. So even in this time of year, someone ventures out.

This photo was taken in Saratoga County, NY in January, the coldest month of the year.

About Lise Winne

Lise Winne

I have a bachelor's degree in Studio Art and a masters degree in Art Education. I used to be an art teacher and taught grades K - 12. In order to teach art in the public schools, I needed to learn a lot of mediums. I have carried this into my art studio as well, painting in one area of the studio and making altered digital photographs in another part of the studio. My primary mediums are painting, drawing, digital art, illustrations, cartoons, hand thrown pottery and relief sculpture. If you see pottery in my photographic work, it is my own hand-thrown piece. I have shown my work in galleries and through juried shows at art centers and museums. Some notables include The Delaware Art Museum, Haverford Center of the Arts,...
